Canadian Armed Forces Needs Bassoonists!

With such limited employment opportunities, young Canadian bassoonists need to think seriously about their futures and how to support themselves as career bassoonists.  Our American colleagues have eagerly pursued employment in their various bands and orchestra.  Did you know that our Canadian Forces offer numerous musical career options as well?  

You may not be familiar with these positions and what they entail. In short, there are six 35-40 piece professional CAF bands across Canada whose primary function is to perform music in a number of settings. This can range from wind ensemble to chamber music, marching bands, pop/jazz bands or any small ensembles that can fit our musical programs. We perform at a large variety of engagements both in and out of Canada. All of our musicians are university graduates, many with multiple degrees.

The Canadian Forces are particularly interested in bassoonists! As part of its efforts to grow the Music Branch, the Canadian Forces is temporarily looking to hire above its usual personnel numbers. This presents a great opportunity as there are usually so few positions available for bassoon. Once these vacancies are filled, it may be quite some time before a similar offer arises again. The job will provide full-time employment with a signing bonus of $20,000, starting salary of $72,800, full benefits, and a 25 year contract.
