Aho In Winnipeg!

The Winnipeg Symphony’s New Music Festival has roared back to life.  The highlight for bassoonists this year is the performance of Kalevi Aho’s Concerto for Two Bassoons and Orchestra.  The brilliant Bram van Sambeek joins the equally terrific Kathryn Brooks for this performance February 1st.

Finnish composer Kalevi Aho [1949 – ] is a bright light in contemporary music.  Listen here to Bram van Sambeek play excerpts from Aho’s Bassoon Concerto.

This promises to be THE bassoon event in Canada this Spring.  If you are in the Winnipeg area, the concert is February 1st, 7:30 at Centennial Concert Hall.  The great news is that all the rest of us can stream this from the comfort of our own reed making desks!  Follow this link!
