“Whereas, you have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to advancing the art of bassoon making,
Whereas, you have established Bell Bassoons as one of the world’s great instruments,
Whereas, you have advanced the reputation of Canada as a world leader in bassoon standards,
We hereby appoint you the second recipient of The Council of Canadian Bassoonists’ Awards of Merit
and offer our everlasting thanks.”

Ben Bell’s extraordinary talent was initially nurtured by his friend and mentor, Frank Marcus. Frank was the first recipient of the COCB Award of Merit and it is fitting that Ben be recognized for advancing Frank’s vision and knowledge. Bassoonists all over the world are playing Bell Bassoons As of 2025, Ben has completed over 250 instruments and established himself in the ranks of the world’s great makers.
